Honest review Best-price finder Insider intel

The Hex Alloy was Marucci's value-minded one-piece big barrel, sharing the AZ4X aluminum and ring-free barrel of the CAT line at a friendlier price. A solid, durable travel-ball bat for hitters who want a clean alloy feel without paying flagship money.

Why this score: The Hex Alloy is a genuinely good value: a durable, no-break-in one-piece alloy big barrel that swings clean and performs day one. It scores a notch under the CAT line on raw pop and feel, but the lower price makes it an easy recommendation for budget-conscious travel-ball families.

Our Review

The 2017 Marucci Hex Alloy is the one-piece, individually tuned AZ4X aluminum big barrel that slotted in below the CAT7 as Marucci's more affordable USSSA option. The 2 3/4" barrel is ring-free to maximize the trampoline effect and length, and the sting-free comfort knob keeps the hands happy on mishits. In the -10 it swings balanced and quick, and like the rest of Marucci's alloy bats it is ready to perform straight out of the wrapper with no break-in. It is backed by Marucci's standard twelve-month warranty. For a travel-ball hitter who wants the durable, traditional alloy feel of a CAT without the flagship price tag, the Hex Alloy is a sensible buy.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • AZ4X one-piece alloy is hot out of the wrapper with no break-in
  • Ring-free barrel produces a large, trampoline-style sweet spot
  • Sting-free comfort knob softens feedback on off-center contact

Cons

  • One-piece alloy feel is stiffer and busier than a two-piece composite
  • Balanced build lacks the end-load some power hitters prefer
