2019 DeMarini Voodoo Insane BBCOR Bat Review
DeMarini's most end-loaded BBCOR: a heavy X14 alloy barrel on a composite handle, built to drive home runs for strong hitters. The performance is real; the durability and warranty record are the catch.
Been on the market a while — keep an eye out for in-season price drops.

How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: On power the Voodoo Insane earns its name: the end-loaded X14 barrel produces top-tier mass and pop for a strong hitter. It falls short on the long game, where DeMarini's documented breakage history and slow warranty support pull down durability and value, and the heavy load limits swing weight and broad usability.
Our Review
The Voodoo Insane was the most end-loaded bat DeMarini offered, with an X14 alloy barrel deliberately weighted toward the end cap through the 3Fusion system, and a Paraflex Plus composite handle to dampen the vibration that mass creates. For a strong, experienced hitter who can keep the head through the zone, it produces serious power and a loud, lively barrel. The concern is not the pop, it is longevity and support: DeMarini bats have a long history of cracking and the warranty service tends to lag the field. A hitter who wants this loaded power profile is better served by a Marucci CATX2, which delivers comparable thump with a far stronger documented durability and warranty record.
Also worth a look: Marucci CATX2 — A comparable BBCOR -3 power option with a hot, lively AZR alloy barrel and no break-in. Marucci's warranty department has a far stronger documented durability record than the Voodoo Insane..
Insider Note
On a visit to DeMarini's factory in Oregon, I saw 4-5 pallets of broken bats waiting on warranty returns - and was told that's a normal day. Durability has always been the knock on DeMarini, and it's a big reason we steer hitters to brands that stand behind their product.
