2019 Easton Beast Speed USSSA Bat Review
The Beast Speed was Easton's value-minded one-piece alloy for 2019, built for bat speed. Its ATAC aluminum barrel and new Speed Cap deliver a light, fast swing and a lively crack at a fraction of composite pricing.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: As a one-piece alloy, the Beast Speed earns its highest marks for swing weight, durability and value: it is light, dependable and inexpensive. Sweet spot and power are solid but can't rival premium composites, and feel is good for an alloy thanks to the cushioned grip. The standout case for this bat is value over a long travel season.
Our Review
The 2019 Beast Speed sits in the alloy-value lane of Easton's USSSA lineup, aimed at hitters who want a fast, no-break-in bat without paying premium-composite money. It is built as a one-piece bat from Easton's ATAC aluminum, which keeps the barrel walls thin and strong for a light swing weight. The new Speed Cap gives the barrel a more flexible, responsive feel and a noticeably louder crack at contact. A custom Lizard Skins DSP grip rounds it out with good tack and cushion. The speed-balanced design swings light through the zone, so it favors contact and speed hitters over hitters chasing maximum end-load. It is not the hottest bat in the travel-ball world, but for the price it is a dependable, durable alloy that gets the job done and holds up well over a season.
