2021 Easton Salvo Extra End-Load (USSSA) Slowpitch Bat Review
The 2021 Easton Salvo Extra End-Load is a two-piece composite USSSA slowpitch bat with a 13.5-inch barrel and an extra-heavy end load, the most top-heavy member of the 2021 Salvo line for strong power hitters.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Power leads on the strength of the extra end load and hot barrel. Swing weight scores low because the top-heavy mass narrows who can use it well, and the 1.20-BPF-only cert limits current tournament value.
Our Review
The Salvo Extra End-Load sits at the top of the 2021 Salvo end-load ladder, carrying more mass toward the cap than the standard loaded model. It uses the same first-generation Fire Flex barrel and ConneXion+ two-piece joint as the rest of the family, so the trampoline is hot out of the wrapper and the joint helps soak up vibration on the inevitable mishits that come with swinging a heavy bat. The extra load is squarely for hitters who can generate and hold high bat speed; for them it can add carry, but it punishes anyone who gets long or slow through the zone. Certification is 1.20 BPF for USSSA, NSA and ISA under the older standard, so like its siblings it predates the USSSA 240 NTS rule and should be checked against current tournament requirements. In league play it is a legitimate distance bat for a specific, strong hitter.
