Why this score: The Duality scores well on balance, feel, and forgiveness: the Hot Metal alloy barrel is responsive, the Dual Frequency Damper smooths out contact, and the swing is quick. Durability and build quality are solid. It loses a point on raw power versus the loudest composites and on value only because brand visibility is lower, but it is a quietly strong all-around hybrid.

Our Review

The B23 Duality is Mizuno's understated hybrid, and understated is a fair description of how it plays: a Hot Metal alloy barrel that is hot out of the wrapper, a composite handle for some give, and the two-piece Dual Frequency Damper doing real work to take sting out of mishits. The swing is balanced and quick, which makes it an easy bat for a range of hitters rather than a specialist. It does not have the loud, attention-grabbing pop of the flagship composites, and Mizuno's BBCOR lineup flies under the radar, but the build quality and clean feel are legitimately good. For a balanced hybrid at a sensible price, it deserves more attention than it gets.
