2024 Marucci CATX Connect USA Baseball Bat Review
The CATX Connect pairs the CATX alloy barrel with a composite handle and a vibration-dampening joint, and in -8 it gives a stronger USA hitter a slightly end-loaded, smooth-feeling bat with real driving mass.
Been on the market a while — keep an eye out for in-season price drops.

How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Feel is the headline thanks to the two-piece hybrid joint, with sweet spot and power right behind. Swing weight scores lower because the end-loaded -8 only suits stronger hitters, and value dips slightly against the cheaper one-piece CATX.
Our Review
Where the one-piece CATX is stiff and direct, the CATX Connect bolts that same AZR alloy barrel onto a carbon composite handle through Marucci's SDX LT2 connection, which soaks up vibration and shifts the balance slightly toward the end of the barrel. In the -8 that adds up to a smooth, mass-forward bat that an advancing 12-13 year-old can drive through the ball with. The connection makes mishits noticeably more comfortable than on the one-piece. The trade-offs are price and fit: it costs more than the standard CATX, and the end-load means it is strictly for a bigger, stronger hitter, not a player still building bat speed.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Two-piece hybrid kills vibration for a very smooth feel
- Slight end-load helps stronger hitters drive the ball
- Same proven AZR alloy barrel as the one-piece CATX
Cons
- End-loaded -8 is the wrong fit for smaller or younger players
- Costs more than the one-piece CATX for a similar barrel
