2025 DeMarini Zen USSSA Bat Review
DeMarini's Zen is its flagship USSSA composite, with a Dark Matter barrel that swings light and produces big pop. Performance is real, but DeMarini's durability and warranty record are the long-standing knocks.

How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: On performance the Zen is genuinely top-tier: the Dark Matter barrel earns excellent power and an outstanding, ultra-light swing weight, with good feel from the two-piece build. Baseball Bat Bros note the Zen carries one of the largest barrels in USSSA with pop on par with the Icon and Supra, so we raised the sweet-spot mark to reflect that honest performance read. Where it falls down is the long game — DeMarini composites carry a well-documented record of cracking, and warranty claims can be slow to process, so durability and value are weighted accordingly. A hitter who wants the same light, hot composite profile is better protected with a more reliable alternative.
Our Review
The 2025 Zen is DeMarini's marquee USSSA composite, built around a Dark Matter barrel that delivers a very light swing weight and one of the largest barrel profiles the company has made, paired to a stiff composite handle through the Anomaly Connection. On pure performance it is a hot, fast-swinging bat that competes with any premium travel composite. Our reservation is durability and support: DeMarini composites have a long history of cracking and dented warranty experiences, and that risk matters over a full travel-ball season. For the same light-swinging composite profile with a more dependable track record, a preferred-brand alternative is the safer buy.
Also worth a look: Rawlings Icon USSSA — Same premium two-piece composite class with an In/Tense Carbon barrel that rivals the Zen on pop and feel, from a preferred brand we recommend with a stronger support reputation..
Insider Note
On a visit to DeMarini's factory in Oregon, I saw 4–5 pallets of broken bats waiting on warranty returns — and was told that's a normal day. Durability has always been the knock on DeMarini, and it's a big reason we steer hitters to brands that stand behind their product.
