Why this score: Power and sweet spot are the headline — the end-load and hot In/Tense Carbon barrel make this one of the bigger-hitting USSSA bats, in line with the Bat Bros' high Icon rankings. Swing weight scores lowest because the true end-load is demanding. Value is fair at the $399.99 premium tier. USSSA rankings.)

Our Review

The Icon USSSA -5 is the top drop in Rawlings' travel-ball line, made for the bigger 13-14U hitter preparing to step into BBCOR. It keeps the seamless In/Tense Carbon barrel and Zero Loss Collar but adds real end-load, putting maximum barrel mass behind the ball for hitters who can drive it. In USSSA the 2 3/4-inch barrel and 1.15 BPF standard let that mass translate into big exit velocities, and the sweet spot stays large and forgiving for a power bat. This is the most demanding swing in the Icon family, so it rewards strength and bat speed and is not the right call for a contact-first hitter. At $399.99 it is a premium choice, best suited to an advanced power hitter near the end of their travel-ball years.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • True end-load delivers maximum power for advanced hitters
  • Seamless In/Tense Carbon barrel is among the hottest in USSSA
  • Smooths the transition toward a BBCOR swing weight

Cons

  • End-load is too much bat for contact-first or smaller hitters
  • Premium $399.99 price
