Rawlings' flagship composite, built around barrel size and forgiveness. The Icon's In/Tense carbon layup maximizes barrel volume while staying stiff, and a Zero-Loss connection smooths the handle-to-barrel transition for a clean, balanced swing.

Why this score: The Icon shines on barrel size, feel, and forgiveness: the In/Tense composite barrel is big and the Zero-Loss connection makes for an exceptionally smooth two-piece feel. The balanced swing is quick. Power is strong but break-in dependent, durability is typical-composite rather than alloy-grade, and value, poor at the $499 launch, is now good at closeout.

Our Review

The Icon is Rawlings going all-in on a big, forgiving composite barrel, and it largely succeeds. The In/Tense carbon construction keeps the barrel stiff while maximizing size, so the sweet spot is large and the trampoline is real once the bat is broken in, and the Zero-Loss collar does a nice job killing drag and vibration. The balanced swing weight keeps it quick and friendly to a wide range of hitters rather than just power guys. Like any premium composite it needs break-in and launched at a steep price, but on closeout it is one of the better value flagships you can buy.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Large, forgiving In/Tense composite barrel with strong trampoline once broken in
  • Zero-Loss connection delivers a smooth, low-vibration two-piece feel
  • Balanced swing weight keeps it quick and works for many hitter types

Cons

  • Composite barrel requires break-in before it reaches peak performance
  • Premium launch price; only a strong value now that it has dropped
