Why this score: The CAT9 Connect still earns strong power and durability marks thanks to its heat-treated alloy barrel and stiff connection. Swing weight is lower because of the demanding end-load. Value is the standout now that it is heavily discounted against the newer CATX models, making it a smart buy for a power hitter on a budget.

Our Review

A generation behind Marucci's current flagship, the CAT9 Connect has aged into a value buy because its core formula still works. The AZ4X alloy barrel went through Marucci's multi-stage heat treatment for a responsive, forgiving hitting surface, and the SDX EXT connection ties it to the composite handle with a stiff feel that keeps energy moving toward the ball. The end-load is real and gives strong hitters extra mass through the zone, so it favors power over speed. As an alloy-barreled bat it needs no break-in and holds up well over a season. With the CATX and CATX2 now on shelves, the CAT9 Connect is steeply discounted, and at the lower price it is one of the better hybrid deals available to a power hitter.
