How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Swing weight is the whole story here: a -12 composite is about as easy to swing as a big barrel gets, which is what young hitters need. Sweet spot and feel are good for the price. Power is modest because the bat is so light, and composite durability in cold weather is the usual caution, which keeps that score down. Value is solid for a developmental bat.
Our Review
The 2026 Threat is aimed squarely at the developing travel-ball hitter who has outgrown tee-ball bats but still needs a light stick to build bat speed. It is a full two-piece composite with a low-compression barrel that comes out of the wrapper hot, and the flexible two-piece connection smooths out vibration so small hands don't get stung on off-center contact. At a -12 drop with a 2 3/4-inch barrel, the swing is about as easy as a legal big barrel gets, which is exactly the point for this age group. It is not a bat a stronger, older player will grow into for long, and a full-composite barrel is less rugged than alloy, but for the right young hitter it is one of the easier-swinging ways to start raking line drives.
