Why this score: A strong-value one-piece debut from Marucci with a lively barrel and a well-damped knob; smaller sweet spot and stiffer feel than premium two-piece bats keep it a solid mid-tier pick.

Our Review

The Echo (MFPE10) was Marucci's first real push into fastpitch composite, and it brought the company's bat-building reputation to a new category. It is a one-piece, all-composite bat using Marucci's MDX barrel - a multi-directional composite layup designed for a responsive barrel and a loud, lively pop. The 2nd Generation AV2 anti-vibration knob takes the edge off the sting that one-piece bats can deliver, giving it a cleaner feel than the construction would suggest. The swing is balanced and the bat plays like a traditional one-piece: stiff, direct and consistent. It carries USA/ASA, USSSA, ISA and WBSC (ISF) approval, so it is broadly legal for high school, travel and rec. As a first-generation bat in a crowded field it does not have the sweet-spot size or the dampened, springy feel of a top two-piece composite, but at its modest MSRP and especially as a closeout, the Echo is a legitimately good value for a contact-oriented hitter.

Also worth a look: Easton Ghost Unlimited — our top fastpitch pick - the benchmark for feel and pop.
